Prantiya Sarbojanin Kalyan Kendra, Kimin is
previously known as Prantiya Samaj Kalyan Kendra ,is a voluntary organisation for the
upliftment of the needy and the poor. It was formed with a motto to help the weaker
sections of the society, basically the ST peoples within the states of Assam and Arunachal
Pradesh. It is for the upliftment of the socio-economic
condition of the peoples of the area and is based on the Gandhian thought and principles
of universal brotherhood. The organisation is at a distance of 28 Km. From Lakhimpur Town,
the district head quarter of the Lakhimpur District of Assam. It is linked by the P. W. D
Road leading to Zero of Arunachal Pradesh. Its objective in the broader spectrum is infusion of appropriate technology in the field of agriculture, sericulture, industry, horticulture & floriculture. Adaptation of programees and schemes of both the govts.- State & Central, for the progress of the target groups. Inclusion of innovative ideas and methods for the socio-economic development of the society. Year 1999 2000 was a year of achievement for PSKK. Apart from the ongoing govt. programmes and schemes, PSKK at present, is implementing STST programme of Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India & UNDP assisted Sericulture project. Sub Centres : The Kendra has three (3) sub centres at Laluk, Phuloni (Mazuli), & Dhemaji. Instead of these ongoing projects,
few more projects such as Old Age Home, Shelter for the Street Childrens, Home for
all etc are proposed to take-up in near future. It is also most likely that a Special
Study Centre of Indira Gandhi National Open University is likely to come into force
very recently. It is obvious that the organisation
can do everything for the growth of society and social ethics. But fur long hopes depends
on the cooperation of the Govt. and the public.

Ongoing projects a) Maintenance
of ST Students Hostel : A Hostel for 100 nos of ST students from the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India is at full force in the organisation. The borders are provided free accommodation with every accessories for living. The organisation is to take care of the childrens in every sphere of their day-to-day life. A weaving training center is also running under PSKK to impart training in the weaving sector for the upliftment and to generate self-employment among the women of the society. This scheme has evoked to be very fruitful as it has helped a lot in increasing the income level of the trainees. Under this scheme 30 nos. of weavers are trained every year out of which 20 are provided with hostel facility with free accommodation. c. Knitting Section : A knitting section with all the accessories is run by Kendra with 20 nos of inputs. Among them, 5 nos. are ST girls and they enjoy free hostel accommodation. d. Cutting & Tailoring : A Cutting & tailoring School is also run by the organisation. The trainees, most of them are ST students. Among them, 7 nos. of trainees are residential. They are benefited by the stipend alike the students of weaving and knitting. e. Type Writing School : A Type Writing School is also runned by the Kendra to help the unemployed youths of the area under the various self-help schemes of the Govt. of India and Govt. of Assam. Duration of each batch of training is of 6 (six) months. f.Maintenance of Destitute Children Home : Organisation is in the view that the childrens are the most vulnerable section of the society. In view of that, it is running a Destitute Children Home with its intake capacity of 50 nos. of children. The scheme is wholly sponsored by the Govt. of Assam. The childrens of the disabled families are also benefited from this scheme. All the facilities are provided to the childrens under this scheme for their healthy growth. g.Cultural Section : A cultural section under
the affiliation of Prayag Sangeet Samittee, Allahabad is also running under the Kendra
where experienced teachers are imparting training of Indian Classical along with Satriya
to the trainees. It is encouraging the childrens to learn music and to know about
their culture. A school affiliated to the CBSE (Affiliation No 22304) with high level is also runned by the Kendra. The school has a Primary level also where students from LKG to Class- IV are imparted education. The Middle Section is provincialised under the Govt. of Assam. The intake capacity of the school is 600 students. The students enrolled in the last academic year were 467 i) Rastrabhasa
School : Kendra has a Rastrabhasa School which is been recognised by the Rastrabhasa
Prachar Samittee. Kendra has been included in the UNDP
sub-programme as a Field Implementing Agency for Muga in the Lakhimpur & Sonitpur
district of Assam in the year 1999-2000. The programme is for a period of 3 years. Under
the project, Kendra has already successfully conducted a workshop on 13th &
14th June, 2000 at North Lakhimpur the district head quarter of
Lakhimpur. It is projected that a minimum of 4500 beneficiaries/ families will be
benefited directly from this project. |
