               1988-2003 

(Reaching out to the people with their support)

Do:Nyi Po:lo Youth Society (DPYS ) is a  non-governmental society  initiated by a group of youths of the missing tribe to preserve ,promote and enrich the folk songs ,folkdances and various art  forms of the Missing tribe inhabiting a few districts of upper Assam.  The society was registered under societies registration act .1860 in1988.

       The society initiated several village  based cultural exchange programmes  between noted singers of  Missing tribe  and budding  young talents from  the rural areas for providing adequate  coverage  and publicity .The society also mobilized  local  contribution to produce two (2) audiocassettes  where young talented singers were given the opportunity  to record  their songs . In its maiden venture in produce a audio cassette titled “Do:nyi Po:lo” and the second one by the title “OBONORI  BIJJER”. These two  Audio Cassettes have been widely  appreciated .Subsequently many identified  talents were exposed to perform in A.I.R. and Doordarshan  Kendra.

          IN the course of organizing  cultural meets and youth exchanges  programmes  the member of Do:nyi Po:lo youth society  were exposed to the economic  hardships of the rural people who inhabit one of the most  inhospitable terrain along the banks of river Subansiri  and Brahmaputra which perennially  floods the Missing habitations destroying  agricultural crops , home stead  lands besides delinking communication system  every year .The stoical Missing have gradually adapted  themselves into coexisting  with floods but the basic needs of this community  are still being  denied which is becoming major obstacle towards improving their quality of life. The society has therefore decided   to undertake building peoples group in rural areas so to develop a ‘think  tank’ for advancement  of  people action for economic empowerment DPYS also proposes to initiate programmes amongst other less privileged  communities  namely SC, ST, OBC, MOBC , act. Including  disaster  victims .

          Some of the activities   taken up by the DPYS both independently  as well as in collaboration  with govt. agencies  NGOs , non-banking  financial institution and research  center   are as follows :-

         *  initially commenced a scheme  title  “ weaving  as a means of income generation “ to  enable  poor   women  to earn  supplementary  income .

          *  conducted knowledge , aptitude and practices (KAP) studies on “Youth  campaign against  AIDS” in ASSAM and ARUNACHAL PRADESH  study sponsored  by  Nehru   Yuvak  Kendra  Sanghathan .

                      *    Conducted Handicraft artisans survey in collaboration with Northeastern

Industrial & Technical Constancy Organisation (NEITCO) on behalf of DC Handicraft G.O.I..

           *    Health Check up programmer under Prime Minister’s Integrated Urbaqn Poverty Eradication   programmer (PMIUPEP) in N.Lakhimpur.

·        Preparation of project profile and training modules for Urban Micro Enterprise under Nehru Rojgar Yojana for Urban areas under Lakhimpur District; sponsored by Dept. of Town and Country planning Govt. of Assam.

           *    Survey of Development  schemes implemented by District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), Lakhimpur.

·        Implementation of Drinking water project sponsored  CAPART,         NEZ , under which 10 units of  Mark II hand pumps were installed in 6 villages of Lakhimpur District (1997).

·        Conducted households survey in slum pockets of Lakhimpur Town . Study sponsored by Town & Country Planning Department .

·        Formation of 140 self-help groups (SHGs) in Lakhimpur District under the guidance of NABARD Guwahati . Over three thousand (3000)  women members of SHGs are into thrift and credit activities ; social animators trained on SHG concept under the sponsorship of CAPART , at North  Eastern  Institute of Bank Management Guwahati (1998-02).

·        Facilitated repairing of community assets (7 rural link roads and 2 natural fishery ponds in flood affected areas of Lakhimpur District with assitance from OXRAM (I) TRUST 1998 .

·        Agriculture support in the from of seed distribution ( Mustard ,Wheat etc.) to 800 marginal farmers; nutrition for locating mother to about 300 families; Yarn to about 250 weavers ;Installation of the tube wells under emergency flood programe assisted by OXFAM (I) TRUST, 1998. Executed in partnership with Northeast affected area Dev. Society (NEADS) (1998-99).

·        Awarness camp on “Self help groups” concept was organized on 26.03.1999. The programe was sponsored by NABARD .

·        Exposure trip to Andra Pradesh for interacting with SHGs initiated by MYRADA for representatives of self-help groups and NGO functionaries (Sept. 1999) .

·        Malaria prevention drive by setting up Drugs Distribution center (DDC) and First treatment Depot(FTD) at Ghilamara block and Nowboicha block (2000).

·        Designated as Facilitation Center of Council for advancement of peoples action and rural technology (CAPARD) , an autonomous body under the aegis of Ministry of rural areas and Employment G.O.I.; Conducted Awareness and capacity building workshops for VO’s of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh (1999) .

·        Conducted “Industrial Campaign cum workshops” for youth of Jonai sub-division at Jonai in collaboration with District Industries and commerce center (DICC) Dhemaji .(1^st December 2000) .

·        Conducted a workshops on vermi-composting  Technology in collaboration with social forestry Deptt. The programme was sponsored by Ministry of Environment and Forest through Assam science society under NATIONAL ENVIRONMENT AWARENESS CAMPAIGN (31-3-2001).

·        Organised a workshops for SHG representative in collaboration with Subansiri Gaonlia Bank (SGB) on 24/6/2001. The workshop was sponsored by Subansiri Gaonlia Bank .

·        Organised World  bank aided Training on information , Education and Communication (IEC) for pregnant women and Adolescent Boys and Girls at Bogum sub center under Boginadi PHC .Eighty (80) pregnant women and thirty(30)nos. Adolescent boys and girls were trained on AIDS,STD,Nutrition population explosion, Vasectomy, Tubectomy and oter aspects related to rural health(2001).

·        In order to facilitate marketing of  rural resource based products being produced by self help groups (SHGs), SSI Units and Entrepreneurs , Do:nyi Po: lo Youth socity has set up arural business and information point (RBIP) with a show room which has become operational from January 2002.

·        Facilitated implementation of training programme on women health promoter and training of birth attendance organized by District Training coordinator under State Health and Family Welfare Training Institute, Khanapara for generating awareness and motivation of public to utilize family welfare services(1998).

·        Conducted Capacity Building workshop for Vos/CBOS  of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh ,at Along (Arunachal Pradesh ),Tinsukia ,Dibrugarh,Sibsagar (June2002).The workshops were  sponsored by CAPART,regional committee ,NEZ.

·        Organised workshop on agriculture and allied areas in collaboration with Regional Agriculture Research Station (RARS), Lakhimpur (Aug2002).

·        Organised a Workshop Cum mobile campaign on impact of forest cover depletion in the flood prone areas of Lakhimpur District (Mar 2002).The above programme was sponsored by Ministry of Environment and forest through Assam Science Society (31-3-2002).

·        Organised training programme for SHG representative in collaboration with Subansiri Gaonlia Bank(SGB) on 31-3-2002 and 2-6-2002 at Ghilamara Lakhimpur respectively. The programme was sponsored by NABARD.

·        Organised vocational training programme in Bakery , Cane and Bambo,Cycle repairing at Lakhimpur in collaboration with Multi disciplinary training center (MTDC)a KVIC training center ,Doimukh ,Arunachal Pradesh (October 2002).Nominated volunteers for a training on Endi spinning, Lysemphy weaving at MTDC, Doimukh.Training Duration:(2002-2003).

·        Actively participated in survey of Urban out of school children in North Lakhimpur District under Sarva Siksha Abhijan(SSA) Sep 2002.

·        Nominated volunteers to attend district level trainers training (DLMT) course on Capacity Building of field management committee from Sep.18^th to 27^th.2001 at FTS , Lakhimpur. The programme was organized by office of Joint Director of Agriculture, Dhemaji Zone ,Assam.

·        Conducted training programme on commercial swine farming for SHGs of Dhakhuakhana , Ghilamara and Lakhimpur development block in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, a unit of Regional Agriculture University from 5^th-6^th June ,2003,at Mohkhowa village.

·        Conducted interactive workshop of NGO,Bankers ,SHGs DRDA for effective implementation  of SHG programme on 9^th April ,2003. The programme was sponsored by NABARD,Regional office , Guwahati.

·        Conducted SHG awareness programme for new and potential SHGs at Jyotioshpur village , Dhemaji on 10^th Apr,2003.The programme was sponsored by NABARD, Regional office, Guwahati.

·        Conducted capacity building workshop for VOS/CBOS of Jorhat & Dhemaji district at Majuli from 9^th to 11^th feb.03. The programme was sponsored by CAPART,NEZ.

·        Organised Development Expro-2003 at Ghunashuti on the occasion of Mising Agom Kebang from 21st to 23^rd February 2003.

·        The volunteers of Do:nyi Po:lo Youth Society(DPYS) have also been participating in various programme to update themselves on various issues connected with Rural Development and allied sectors as follows:-

·        Attended (IEC) Information , Education and communication ,Master training for implementation of World`Bank aided Health Project Director ,Assam Area Project ,IPP-IX Swasthya Bhavan , Guwahati 2001.

·        Attended a one day workshop on NGO Development at Assam Administrative Staff Collage,Guwahati 2001.

·        Attended work shop on new initiatives of CAPART,2001.

·        Gender sensitization for Rural Development functionaries ,1999.

·        Attended programme on SHG formation and Management at North Eastern Institute of Bank Management (NEIBM),Guwahati ,2000.

·        Attended workshop on Flood and related issues of Brahmaputra Basin held at Assam Agriculture University (AAU),Jorhat,1999.

·        Workshop on Rural Technology conducted by Himalayan Environment Studies & Conservation Organisation (HESCO),at Guwahati 1997.

·        Workshop on formulation & implementation of Rural Development Projects at NIRD,  NERC,Guwahati 2000.

·        Workshop on Flood Preparedness & coping Mechanism at NEADS, Jorhat 2001.

·        Seminar on Women in Mising Society at Jorhat, Organished by Anu Agom a Mising monthly news paper,2001.

·        Participated in Gram Shree Mella held at Gangtok, Guwahati ,Shimla.(2001-2003).

·        India International Trade Fair (IITF) at New Delhi,1999.

·        Relief for super cyclone mitigation programme “Orissa”,2000.

·        Participated in first zonal Exhibition Cum sales Fair “1999” organised by District Industries and Commerce center ,Lakhimpur, Sonitpur &  Dhemaji District; Awarded 2^nd prize in the zonal exhibition.

·        Attended workshop on AIDS at Guwahati organized by Nehru Yuvak Kendra Sanghathan ,1996 ; conducted knowledge & Aptityde ,(KAP) Studeis in 1996; conducted symposium on AIDS at Dhakhuakhana in collaboration with District AIDS cell. Lakhimpur; participated  in University talk on AIDS  organized by NSS Lakhimpur collage Unit ,1996.

·        Workshop of Facilitation Centers of CAPART held at New Delhi ,1999.

·        Participated in the regional training programme for NGOs on non governmental effort for harnessing and optimal use of water organized by North Eastern Regional Institute of water and land management (NERIWALM) April 2002 at Tezpur .

·        Participated in farmers day organized by Regional Agriculture Research Station (RARS), Lakhimpur ,Assam (23^rd nov  2001 ).

·        Attended workshop on piggery development organized by Blue Cross Society , Assam in Assam Agriculture University  Campus, Khanapara 1998.

·        Nominated Rural youth for crash course on creation opportunities  for self employment ,conducted Indian Institute of entrepreneurship (IIE),2002.

·        Participated in world TV day and inauguration of revised national Tuberculosis control programme in Lakhimpur District (24^th mar 03).

·        Nominated volunteer of Do: Nyi: Po:lo  Youth Society (DPYS) for two months training programme on hard board and paper production from Banana stem waste at Wardha ,Maharasta .(Feb-march,2003).

·        Attended Farmers day at Regional Agriculture Research Station (RARS),on 29^th November 2002.

·        Attended Workshop on Neo –natal care organised by Breast feeding promotion Network of India,state unit ,Assam on 4^th sept .2002 at North Lakhimpur .

·        Attended workshop on Road Safety on 14^th June 2003 .The programme was organized by District   Transport Office (DTO),Lakhimpur.

 ACTIVITY REPORT DPYS (2003-2005)

1.      Attended workshop on Dams, River linking and Extractive Industries on 16,17,18^th Nov. 2003 at Guwahati.

2.      Attended  Disaster Perspective Development planning workshop at Jorhat held from 29.11.04 to 3.12.04.

3.      Attended 2(two) days Modular Training on Revised national TB control programme held from 27.12.04 to 20.12.04.

4.      Organized Awareness on RNTCP for Mahila Samitees / SHGs at Boginadi Block.

5.      Conducted impact assessment study on revised national TB control programme for Lakhimpur District ,march 2004.

6.      Organized rally cum Public meeting on occasion of Anti-Leprosy day on 30^th January ,2005 in collaboration with the office Jt. Director ,Health Services.

7.      Organized SHG workshop in collaboration with Nehru Yuvak Kendra and S.B.I.,North Lakhimpur in 6^th and 19^th January .

8.      Participated in workshop on AIDS organized  by His guiding hard Association in collaboration with Zilla Parishad on 11^th  feb.05 .

9.      Organized  workshop on Flood  related issues in collaboration with North East effected area  Development society (NEADS), Jorhat on 9^th march,2005.

10.  Organized world TB day celebration at Ghilamara in collaboration with Astha and District TB center ,North Lakhimpur on 24^th march 05.

11.  Organized SHG counseling in collaboration with state Bank of India,North Lakhimpur Branch and Subansiri  Gaonlia Bank ,Head office from 25 to27 march , 2005 at Bebejia Tiniali on occasion of  Missing Bane Kebang .

12.  Conducted impact assessment study on revised national TB control programme (RNTCP) implemented by District TB center (march 05).

13.  Attended training on first aid and Medical Mat5ters under Disaster reduction awareness week (8^th-21^st ,January,05) at Civil Hospital North Lakhimpur .

14.  Attended Annual sport day organized by Ghagar Kolakhowa  Sangha in collaboration with Karpumpuli Society(31^st march,05).

15.  Facilitated formation Association of SHGs at Ghilamara Block for taking up common activity on duster bosis.
