A. Tribal Development Centre (T.D.C.):
The Tribal Development Centre (T.D.C.) was established at Sankardeva Mahavidyalaya on 10th August in the year 1995 by the enthusiastic incumbents of the college including the Principal taking Sri Purneswar Phukan, Lecturer in the department of economics as Co-ordinator. As the college lies in the bonafide Tribal Sub-Plan (T.S.P.) area, so the relevancy of Tribal Development Centre seemed to be of greater significance.
Aims & Objectives:-
The aims and objectives of the Tribal Development Centre is given below,
1 To make an attempt for the Socio-economic development of the Tribal people living in the nearest places of Sankardeva Mahavidyalaya.
1. To develop the economic condition of the tribal people living below poverty line.
2. To eradicate superstition and other social disorders prevailing in the tribal society through publicity, workshop etc.
3. To take necessary scientific measures for the preservation of tribal folk-culture through modern techniques like, audio visual.
4. To accomplish social work programme for the welfare of the tribal people and tribal area.
5. To survey the population structure of the tribal people of Kherajkhat Mouza from time to time.
6. To take attempt for the spreading of education in tribal area.
The main aims of the project were:
1. Identification of cultural changes among tribal communities;
2. Analysis of cultural changes from traditional to modernity;
3. Comparison in historical perspective;
4. Dissemination of research results in the various departments related to the development and presentation of tribal culture in India.
5. The tribal Centre already collected 60 books written on different aspects of Tribal but the TDC is still in search of pedantic books for a study centre.
6. A field study on different Socio-economic aspects in tribal villages under Kherajkhat Mouza has been running since January ’06 and several questionnaires relating to this study have already been prepared. From this study the Tribal Development Centre shall be able to find out their different problems and try to pave a way for their all round development.
Conclusion:
The Kherajkhat Mouza under Narayanpur circle of Lakhimpur district is a habitat of different ethnic groups such as, Missings (Miri), Deories, Khamptis, Kacharis, Karbis, Tea-tribes (Santhalis) etc. but still they have been lagging behind in comparision to modern civilization due to poverty, illiteracy, superstition etc. at the same time tribal communities have their own rich heritage like distinguishing identities, traditions, beliefs and customs. But such a colourful culture of the tribals cann’t pace with the modern scientific civilization due to their some deep rooted superstition, beliefs, poverty and illiteracy. The TDC of our college will adopt earnest and relentless Endeavour to educate them.
Activities Performed:-
1. A Seminar on the topic “Present Education of Tribals in Asom and its Remedies” on 6-1-2001 was held. In the seminar most of the participants stressed to eradicate poverty, illiteracy and superstition from tribal societies which are the main hurdles of education among tribal societies. Mr. P.Phukan, Co-ordinator of the Tribal Development Centre gave stressed on the needed of preservation of colourful tribal culture.
2. Under the supervision of the Tribal Development Centre the college community offered a helping hand to the flood affected villages at Pithaguri on 7-8-2002 by supplying bamboos to mend houses and making temporary bamboo bridge.
3. An awareness campaign on bank finance was held at Karackjuli Santipur village on 24-01-2004. In this campaign we tried to make aware the tribal people of this locality how to avail the different opportunities offered by different banks with the help of the than branch manager of Subansiri Gaonlia Bank, Bhogpur Branch.
4. A day long “Clean up the Environment” programme was held at Dikrong Chapari L.P. School on 24-01-2004. The programme was started at 9.30 a.m. and ended at 3.30p.m. About 70 students of our college and several public participants offered their voluntary service to clean up the school campus. After that Mr. M. Boruah, Head of the Department of Political Science of our college explained about the importance of such programme in different tribal villages.
5. The Tribal Development Centre made on attempt for the collection of population statistics of tribal under Kherajkhat Mouza for the year 2001. the result is-
i. Total ST Population = 5,504 (13.13%)
ii. Total SC Population = 1,411 ( 3.36%)
iii. General Population = 35,034 (83.51%)
iv. Total Population = 41,949 (100.00%)
6. Of late, the Tribal Development Centre has submitted a proposal for financial assistance under the scheme of Tribal/Folk-Art and Culture for the project “Transitional Character of Tribal Communities in Kherajkhat Mouza (Thashil)- Tradition to modern.
B. Information and Career Guidance Cell (ICGC):
There is a separate well-furnished cell of ICGC for providing information regarding admission to different courses and employment in public and entrepreneurship and counseling on Career options, personality development and mental ability. It also supplies forms and information about scholarship etc. ICGC has sent four students to get industrial training under chief ministers ‘Uddyam Jyoti Achani’06’ and students for IAS coaching under “Janambhumi Janakalyan Trust’s scheme” of free coaching for IAS. Till date, as per the record maintained, more than two hundred students have been guided and counseled. Some times co-ordinator of ICGC Dr. Brajesh Kumar provides counseling to the students in the neighborhood institutions also. Approximately one hundred students are either employed or self employed through the ICGC up to this session.
C. Sankardeva study and research centre:

Aim & Objectives : Sankardeva was the propounder of Neo-Vaishnavite
religion of Assam. Sankardeva shouldered the leadership in Northeast India in the Indian Bhakti Movement from 15th to 16th century. Besides being a prophet, he was an extraordinary social reformer, great artist and incomparable literary person of all the ages of Assam. In the vast Assamese National life there is no any aspect, where there is no contribution of Sankardeva. Sankardeva Study and Research Centre was establish for scientific study, research and appraisal of his life long contributions. Its aims are:-
a. To establish a library collecting all the books written by Sankardeva and the books written on him in English, Bengali and Hindi language.
b. To take necessary measure for registration, text reading and publication of Ancient Scripts from 15th century onwards and to collect ancient manuscripts.
c. To open a one year professional Borgeet (Classical Song) course according to the curriculam of state Satriyh Sangeet School.
d. To organizes workshop, competition, Seminar etc for publication and spreading of art and culture of Sankardeva as well as to take necessary measure for establishment of a mini museum.
Activities :
a). Sankardeva Study Center has already collected more than 500 ancient scripts and ancient manuscripts for its library and has given apportunity for the students and studious people to study them.
b). A state level competition is held on classical song composed by Sankardeva every year on his death anniversary. On this occasion a special hour is taken to deliver lecture on his religion, philosophy, human quality and national unity.
c). Sankardeva Study and Research Centre held two Seminars on 25th Sept. 2002 and 4th Oct. 2003.
d). A mini museum has already been started collecting immortal models of art and culture of Sankardeva.

Krishikhetra:
The college in order to utilize the vast tract of hilly land varieties of Bamboo plants have been planted. Bamboo has some rare varieties which are on the verge of extinction, will also be planted for the purpose of conservation. In the long run, this farming will be a great boost for the bamboo-based industry.
Teak plants in huge number are also planted. The college has also collected and planted a large number of medicinal plants in the form of a Herbarium.
FIRST AID CENTRE:
The First Aid Centre of the College provides preliminary medical and health aid to the students injured during college hours. One college teacher as in charge and one Grade-IV employee are entrusted with this responsibility. The serious cases are referred to the nearest Primary Health Centre at Bhogpur Chariali for better treatment.
