A REPORT ON THE ACTIVITIES OF RC-7

 

 

INTRODUCTION:

 

By the sincere initiatives of the Principals of Rural based Colleges, Viz, Sankardeva Colleg, Madhabdev College, Bihpuria College, Nowboicha College, Lakhimpur Kendriya Mahavidyalaya, L.T.K. College and O.P.D. College respectively, a common organization namely RC-7 was formed for mutual co-operation in different areas of academic and non-academic activities. The very first meeting was held on 26th july’03 at Nowboicha College to discuss the nature and importance of the cluster formation. In the same meeting, it was resolved unanimously to work together under the banner of RC-7 (Rural College-Seven). The august house selected Mr. K.G. Das, the thenPrincipal of Madhabdev College, Narayanpur and Mr. P.K. Borgohain and Mr. Mohendra Bora, Principals of Bihupuria College and Sankardeva Mahavidyalaya as working president and convenor respectively. The other Principals of the same group would be the member of the executive body of RC-7. Since then RC-7 has initiated and successful accomplished several activities for the collective growth and development. The Principal objective behind the formation was to:

                        (1). To analyse the existing problems of the individual colleges of the group.

                        (2). To device strategies for rectifying the analysed problems.

(3). To strengthen the curricular and co-curricular activities through exchange and share basis.

(4). To develop the ambience of competitive attitude and harmony amongst the students of colleges under RC-7.

(5). To envisage channelising the intellectual resources available at individual colleges through the faculty exchange programme for greater benefit of the students.

(6). To develop a sense of co-operation and better understanding among the teachers and employees of the member colleges.

 

VISION:

As two or more than two hands are always better than one, RC-7, with its aims and objective, is a concept germinated for the exchange of ideas and dissemination of knowledge among the member colleges so as to cope with all sorts of obstacles coming on the way of development.

 

ACTIVITIES ALREADY ACCOMPLISHED:

RC-7 has already organized the following activities with fruitful results in the past:

1.      Applied for affiliation from UGC vide our letter No. RC-7/03/03 dtd. 24.09.03.

2.      Lakhimpur Kendriya Mahavidyalaya, Saraimuria, hosted a regional seminar on ‘Social Problems and Environment’ on 27.09.03.

3.      All the seven colleges of RC-7 conducted an extensive Plantation Programmes on the eve of Teacher’s Day and World Environment Day.

4.      Initiation of Inter-Library Borrowings of RC-7, a venture which was admired and appreciated by visiting NAAC peer Team.

5.      Madhabdev College conducted a Training Programme for the Non-teaching Staff of RC-7 Colleges in FINANCE/AUDIT/OFFICE MANAGEMENT ON 7th Feb’04.

6.      Inter College competition on BORGEET (Devotional Songs) was conducted at Sankardeva and Madhabdev Colleges on the occasion of their TITHIS (death anniversaries).

FUTURE ACTION PLAN:

 

The RC-7 envisages the following course of action to be undertaken in the days to come:

1.FACULTY EXCHANGE PROGRAMME-

(a). The RC-7 has already collected the lists of teachers with their areas of specialization required to implement the programme. The teachers will be paid honorarium as per the UGC guidelines from the fund allocated under PTAC.

(b). Field study, particularly in history will be conducted jointly by the members of the faculty and the students of RC-7 Colleges. Similarly, Joint Socio-economic surveys will be conducted by the departments of Geography, Sociology, Economics of the RC-7 colleges encompassing a broader geographical area.

(c).Combined Tests and Examinations:

            Apart from University and Council Exams, all the internal exams will be conducted and evaluated jointly. The Examination Board of the RC-7 will device the modalities for the same.

(d). Organizing Seminars:

            one Seminar will be organized at each of the member colleges jointly every six months on various themes of immediate academic and social importance.

(e). Sports Meet:

            RC-7 will have a separate annual sports meet of short duration on prearranged venues.

(f). Cultural Activities:

            Time to time, the member colleges of RC-7 will organize joint cultural programmes of dance, drama, music.

(g). Co-curricular Activities:

            RC-7 will emphasize on the joint conduct of Debate/Quiz/Traditional Dress/Mono acting Competitions.

(h). Extension Activities:

            RC-7 would organize Educational Tours, Community oriented works-Flood Relief Camps, AIDS Awareness Programme, Plantation Programme, Campaign against Drug Traffickers and Alcoholism, Environmental Awareness Programme, Computer Literacy Campaign, Adult Education, Self-employment Programmes etc.

(i). Training of Non-Teaching Staff:

            The Non-Teaching Staff will be trained in Finance Accounts and Record Keeping both manual and Computerized for proper maintenance of college records.

(j). Publication of RC-7 Bulletin:

            the RC-7 will publish an annual BULLETIN detailing the activities initiated and accomplished in the month of March every year.

(k). Merit Prize:

            The RC-7 will institute the Merit Prizes for the toppers of University and Council Examination among the RC-7 Colleges.

(l). Monitoring of RC-7 Activities:

            The President and the Co-ordinator of RC-7 will monitor the activities of RC-7 colleges by the end of the term so as to gear them up for future NAAC Assessment.

CONCLUSION:

            The joint Strategy and Planning helped a lot during the assessment of RC-7 colleges by the NAAC. Thus, RC-7 envisages a bright future working together ‘Birds of a feather flock together’ with a spirit of mutual understanding and sharing. The interactions will certainly be highly profitable both academically and non-academically in the days to come. Our endeavours and efforts are appreciated and applauded everywhere but our objective is uplift of these colleges together and reach the Zenith of success. The myth that urban colleges have better scope will be a thing of past and students would prefer rural colleges to pursue higher education.
