In order to focus attention on a specific topic with the application of skill for the purpose of greater understanding and students participation in teaching, learning process.

With a view to uplift the status of Tribal people and to study their life, culture and tradition the Tribal Development Centre in collaboration with Department of Sociology, Economics and Geography has been organizing Field visits after NAAC accreditation in the Tribal villages to collect and compile the information for further study and research.

Strategy to adopt the practice-
To evaluate the teacher’s ability and performance in the class, the Principal regularly i.e. once in a week make a surprise observation on the basis of a format to improve the quality of teaching and increase the student’s understanding.

Strategy to adopt the practice-
Aiming at obliteration of some serious social maladies, the drama section of the college ‘NATYA – CHARCHA’ and Sankardeva Study and Research Centre organizes and performs ‘STREET PLAY’ to create awareness among the masses to find possible solutions to such problems.
ii. VALUE EDUCATION
Recently a new practice has been initiated to inculcate human spiritual and natural values among the student’s, the value education has been made mandatory. Every teacher before the commencement of class should deliver two minutes of lecture on spiritual topics, great Saints and reformers, non-violence, peace, grandeur, truth, tolerance, tact, politeness, discipline, humanity etc in each of their classes.

5. Schedule for implementing suggestion in Peer Team Report and Perspective Plan for next five years:
Sankardeva Mahavidyalaya wanted to be assessed by the NAAC and submitted its self study report in December 2003 for this purpose. The NAAC, after receiving SSR, appointed a three member Peer Team consisting of Prof. P.K. Sahu, Deputy Chairman, State Planning Board, Government of Orissa, as chairman, Prof. R.P. Tiwary, Dean, School of Forestry & Earth Science, Mizoram University, Aizawl, member co-ordinator and Dr. Sibbalinga Swamy, co-ordinator, Quality Assurance Cell, Commissionarate of Collegiate Education, Government of Karnataka, Bangalore as a member. The Peer Team visited the college from 14th to 15th October, 2004 for validation of the SSR, and for interaction with the Principal, Governing Body, Teaching and Non-Teaching Staff, Students, Alumni and Parents. The Peer Team accreditated the college ‘B’ grade and suggested a few recommendations, which we have planner as per our possibility in the following manner:
i. Besides the courses covered in our curriculum, we have envisaged to introduce Entrepreneurship Development Course very shortly. Moreover, the Information and Career Guidance Cell of the college has been playing vital role in developing self-confidence and creating self-employment opportunities.
ii. For introducing Career Oriented Courses, we have already submitted our proposal in response to the UGC’s advertisement but we are waiting for the response. As soon as, we will receive the response, we will act positively and sincerely in this direction.
iii. The existing Computer Centre of the college has been upgrade with modern Software’s like MS-Office, Windows XP-Professional, DTP programme etc after being recommended by the NAAC Peer Team. But we could not procure and install computers to the individual departments separately on account of the paucity of fund. Still, we have sent proposals to various govt. agencies to provide us grant for the same and have appealed to our local MLA and MP to assist us in this area.
iv. The process of computerization of college library which has already started, will be finished soon. Moreover, the number of books in the library has been raised as per the requirements of the students and teachers.
v. We don’t have Boy’s Hostel till date and the UGC does not provide any grant for the construction of Boy’s Hostel. If in future, from any possible source, funds will be available, then we can undertake its construction.
vi. The college has sufficient indoor and outdoor games facility and for further development we have already requested to various funding agencies.
vii. The Parents and Alumni Association of college are very co-operative and extend all possible assistance for the development of college like Books for Book bank, Aqua guard for filtering water etc.
viii. Information and Career Guidance Cell of the college has been functioning properly and regularly counseling the students for jobs and self-employment schemes.
ix. The Sankardeva Study Centre is endeavouring hard to become a research centre by collecting more and more ancient scripts. Recently, SSC has sent one proposal to the Dept. of Culture, New Delhi for the financial assistance to develop a museum of Folk Art and Culture.
x. The teachers working against non-sanctioned posts are being paid higher salary after being recommended.

2. The context that required the initiation of the Practice:-
Micro-teaching is a training technique aimed at simplifying the complexities of normal classroom teaching. Department of Education has extensively used this technique and get quite good result. Because, here students become more conversant with a particular topic and so comprehend easily. Observing its effectiveness, micro-teaching has been generalized in our institution.
3. Objective of the Practice:-
It has been introduced with certain objectives.
i. In Micro-teaching, particularly chapter is divided into small segments consequently students get it easy to comprehend a single idea than a whole chapter.
ii. Here, attention is focused on specific teaching skills such as lecturing, questioning, explaining, demonstration etc. as students have to follow the above skill, they become more expertise in subject matters and also become proficient in speaking.
4. The Practice:-
Teachers of respective departments select some topics and ask a group of students, choosing a group leader to get prepared on the chosen topic. The leader as well as the group is given a certain period of time for preparation. On due day, the group leader accompanied by the group will provide a lesion to the whole class on the given topic. After teaching, there is an interaction session. Here co-students put questions and the group leader on the group in general answers those questions. The concerned teacher anchors here and interferes whenever it is urgent. Particularly the teachers make necessary rectification whenever it is necessary.
5. Obstacles faced if any and strategies adopted to overcome them:-
Initially students hesitated to take part in Micro-teaching.
Strategy:
Students are motivated for Micro-teaching.
6. Impact of the Practice:-
Much needed self-confidence is attended by students out of Micro-teaching, they get through knowledge on a particular subject matter. As medium of communication is English, so they learn the language well.

2. The context that required the initiation of the Practice:-
To expose students’ talent power extra-curricular activities are a must. So among other, inter-campus seminar is such a move by our institution. Seminars are more useful than other outside activities such as debating or extempore speech because here for preparation of seminar papers students have to study a lot and also have to learn a convincing/Concise writing style, Noticing/Observing Seminars’ effectiveness, this has been introduced in our college.
3. Objective of the Practice:
It has multifarious advantage:-
i. Students’ learn a lot in the given topic by preparing papers or by listening to others. They become more competent for the time to time.
ii. Students’ awkward writing style is substantially heightened through repeated practice in paper writing.
iii. In reading paper and also answering questions they become more confident, more articulate and audacious as well.
4. The Practice:-
All the necessary arrangements for seminar are made by a group of teachers. Resource persons are selected from the faculty and students take the role of participants. Topics are selected from diversified field such as from course content, current affairs and subject matter of regional importance. The seminar generally concluded with the reporter’s report.
5. Obstacles faced if any and strategies adopted to overcome them:-
Obstacle faced:-
At the outset students were reluctant to participate in the seminar.
Strategy adopted:-
To encourage the students for active participation two rewards have been declared for two best paper presenters. This declaration has quite good result.
6. Impact of the Practice:-
Students’ inertia remove considerably by this practice, they become more energetic and more articulate. This enable them to face the future more courageously.

2. The context that required the initiation of the practice:-
The college falls under the notified boundary of Tribal-Sub-Plan (T.S.P) Area of the govt. of Assam. In its surrounding, there are different types of Tribal inhabitants viz. Missing, Deories, Karbies, Khampties, Bodo etc. although the Indian Constitution provides several opportunities for the development of tribal people yet, a huge amount of rural tribal people are still lagging behind in comparison to the tribal people of town areas. So it would be our sincere duty to take some steps for their development, as per provision of the constitution of India. Keeping all these views in mind and to fulfill them within the preview of our capacity, a tribal development centre has been set up in our college.
3. Objective of the Practice:-
i. To know the socio-Economic status of the surveyed villages.
ii. To identify the problems and prospects of the villages and to offer suggestions.
iii. To keep correspondence with the appropriate authority for the remedies.
4. The Practice:-
Our college has been adopting several measures for the upliftment of the Tribal people in the peripheral area of it. The aims and objectives of this center is to help the tribal people in the field of literacy, Economic condition and Social advancement. The TDC has organized several Seminars, Workshops and has delivered lectures among the Tribal peoples of the nearby villages to make them aware so that they may march ahead place to place with the other people.
In association with the departments of Sociology, Education, Geography and Economics several survey programme have already been performed in regards to Socio-Economics status. The TDC has supplied them the information regarding govt. aid, facilities of schemes available in the different departments of the government.
5. Obstacles faced if any and strategies adopted to overcome them:-
In the process of collection of primary data most of the respondents hesitated to give informations frankly. Moreover due to financial problem we are still unable to bring into being a compiled form of the collected data.
Remedies:
The T.D.C. is trying hard to get rid of the problems faced by them by applying the measures mentioned above.
6. Impact of the Practice:-
The students’ that participated in the survey become enlightened with social research methodology which will help them in near future in the process of data collection and research work. They would become aware about the Constitutional rights and its application.

2. The context that required the initiation of the Practice:-
Class-observation is a system of evaluation of the teachers based on a prescribed format to test the effectiveness of teaching and performance of the concerned teacher in the Classroom situation. The Principal would either directly observe the class or depute the vice-Principal or some academician from other institutions for the purpose.
3. Objective of the Practice:-
With a view to the fulfillment of the following objectives, this Practice has been launched-
i. To evaluate the teacher’s ability and performance in the class and to judge their shortcomings.
ii. To suggest and prescribe the necessary measures to improve their qualities of teaching.
iii. To provide better and effective teaching to the students.
4. The Practice:-
Every teacher while engaging the classes is to be assessed and evaluated on the basis of the criteria mentioned in the prescribed format. The observer without prior information will enter the class once in a week in order to evaluate the specific teacher at the time of teaching. The observer will award the teacher with deserving grades which will help in rectifying his methods of teaching at par with the students’ requirements.

No obstacle has been faced till date by the observer in this process.
6. Impact of the Practice:-
The teachers become prompt and enthusiastic while becoming alert to face such surprise observations. They give up their lethargy and habit of procrastination. Even the students’ are highly benefited as the teachers try to disseminate the best teaching materials possible for them.

2. The context that required the initiation of the Practice:-
The “Street Play” is a powerful medium to aware the mass about some serious burning problems prevailing in our academic and non-academic world. Such plays have direct influence upon the peoples mind regarding the issues and as a result their mindsets are changed towards the obliteration of the existing problems.
3. Objective of the Practice:-
i.To make the young minds and responsible citizens aware about some serious problems causing turmoil’s in our society like Ragging, Unauthorized cutting of timber, Smuggling, Drug trafficking etc.
ii. To obliterate such unhealthy practices from our society.
iii. To provide alternative solution to such existing problems.
4. The Practice:-
The ‘Natya Charcha’ and ‘Sankardeva Study and Research Centre’ of the college jointly perform in the streets, colleges premises, Chaurahas (Junctions with diverting roads) the street play entitle ‘Postmortem’ with underlying theme related to the menace of ‘Ragging’ prevalent in many educational institutions throughout our country. It was performed at many places with high effective response. Even the media applauded the display.
5. Obstacles faced if any and strategies adopted to overcome them:-
Financially constraints always come in our way as it is essential for conveyance, feeding etc but our determination paves the way towards success.
6. Impact of the Practice:-
Many institutions of the Lakhimpur district have sent us invitation to exhibit the Street Play in their campus. Various letters of applause and appreciation for our efforts have come to us.
